One of Ji-Li's friends makes her work in the country rather then making her work in the factories. At the farm Ji-Li gathers lots of rows of corn everyday. This is not an easy job for her and even sometimes she is outside all night long gathering corn!
Ji-Li Jiang cut herself many times with an agricultural object that has a long, curving blade called a scythe and she is doing all of this work to improve her class status which for the moment is not good.
Sometimes one of her friends called Bai Shan comes to help her but Ji-Li prefers working independently. After some time Ji-Li faints and passes out because of all the work she does.
She has to go back to where she lives, in Shanghai, to go attest against her father again.
Ji-Li is so loyal to Mao that she works herself to the point that she is sleep less and makes a severe injury in her leg.
I learn that Ji-Li is sent to the country to work to improve her class status and that she is going to a meeting where people try to make her attest against her Dad
This chapter was important in the book because people are trying to make Ji-Li attest against her Dad. And because she is sent to the farm to work.
